New Year’s Bleigiessen

Scrivener January 1st, 2008

Mike gets help melting his Bleigiessen mushroom, originally uploaded by Scrivenings.

For New Year’s Eve, I ordered a couple of bleigiessen kits to bring to Mike & Jenn’s, where the kids and I celebrated. The kit comes with a spoon, 6 lead figures, and a booklet of interpretations. You melt the figure over a candle and then drop the molten lead into a bowl of water, then everyone decides what the resulting lead shape looks like, and what that portends for the coming year.

My shapes
My shapes.

The feather means “a change in your home,” which I take as proof positive that there is something to this whole bliegiessen thing. The other one was either a cobra (the snake means ” people are envious of your success”) or a staff (“your life will turn around”).

Eldest’s largest piece was a dagger, signifying triumph in some endeavor this year. Youngest’s was a lamppost, letting her know that she should not give up on her goals.

Happy New Year! (This looks like such a cool activity! I might have to steal— er, borrow this for next year.) :-)

That’s cool! I’ve never seen that before. I might have to try that with my group of friends next year. I think they’d love it.

Wishing you a much improved year, Scriv!

I have never heard of that – a German take on tea-leaf reading? Looks like fun.
