358: Toffee

Scrivener December 25th, 2007

Toffee, originally uploaded by Scrivenings.

Put an unopened can of sweetened condensed milk into a pot with enough water to completely submerge it, cover, bring to a boil and then reduce heat and simmer for three hours, checking periodically to make sure that the can remains covered with water. The result is a fantastic toffee, which the kids and I used last night to make an apple pie with.

Seriously? That’s what toffee is? I had no idea.

It’s not toffee like the hard candy toffee in a heath bar. It’s closer to a caramel.
