Songs for the last two weeks

Scrivener November 7th, 2007

I mentioned in a bulleted list somewhere, but I’ll say it again anyway, my song for last week was “Guess I’m Doing Fine” by Beck, from his album Sea Change. I practiced a lot last week and was really enjoying playing it, but then left my sheet music at home when I went to my lesson yesterday and couldn’t quite remember the second half of the song. I still played enough to show that I could get all the chord changes, but I was bummed that the first time in a month where I’ve really practiced well I didn’t get to show off like I wanted to.

The song for this week is “Lost Cause” from the same album, where I’ll get a lot of practice picking out individual notes from each chord. Should be challenging, but fun.

I learned “The Golden Age” a while back, so I’m pretty sure that I can play more songs from Sea Change than from any other album.

First: I like the blog and I’m still reading….even though I hardly ever comment…

Second: Sea Change is one of my favorite albums of all time and when I was jobless and homeless and felt more than a little hopeless it stayed in heavy rotation. Lost Cause is my favorite, followed by Guess I’m Doing Fine…

Guess that album connected with alot of Lost Cause energy in the universe – I was in a terrible car accident with my husband in 2002 – he died – and as I was “recovering” I listened to that album and those two songs endlessly. I finally had to stop. But then I discovered Damien Rice…

Funny, but I just discovered this album, myself (hey: I never said I was hip) when a friend put “Lost Cause” on a post-breakup mix CD for me a couple of months ago. I loved the song so much that I just bought the album. How excellent to be able to play some of it yourself.

Betty: Nice to hear from you again.
    Hevver: I’m so sorry.
Flavia: I think you’re hip. The important thing is that you did discover the album, not when.
