i like the color contrasts in this shot but think that turquiose one and blue circles are a little stronger because they envelop the viewer that much more.

Thanks, y'all! These turned out so much better than I'd expected them to.

Billie: It's a blue glass vase. I tried a bunch of different things to get the effects.

For this one, I held the vase with my left hand and the camera a bit away from the opening with my right, and got the camera to focus on the bottom of the vase so my left hand and the lip are out of focus.

For Turquoise 1 I had the flash off and held the vase pointing toward a light, then I put the lens right up against the opening of the vase but off to the side and took the shot. On the other 3 Turquoise shots I had a slightly longer shutter speed, held the camera a little further away, and shook the vase around as I snapped the shot.

On the Blue Circles I put the lens of the camera right up against the lip of the vase as I held it up and took a shot with flash.

I applied various filters in Photoshop to all of these, mostly different blue or cyan or cooling filters. Mostly just to play around with filters, which I'd never tried before at all.
