88: Blue #1

Blue #1, originally uploaded by Scrivenings.
I took a whole bunch of pictures more or less like this one last night, and honestly I think a lot of them are really damned cool. I restrained myself and only uploaded 9 of them to Flickr, which are the basis for a new set of abtract and near-abstract photos. If you like blue or turquoise circles, check out the set. I had a hard time deciding which one to make the official 365 shot, so feel free to let me know whether you think I picked the right one.
I love these shots! I think it’s a tough call between this one and turquoise #1.
Your photographs hold so much visual interest. (I popped by via Julie and Beth). Anyway, I agree with overread, I think it’s a close call between this one and turquoise #1. I think I prefer turquoise #1 because it’s offset to the right.
Turquoise 1 is also great. I think my fave is the playground equipment though! :0)
I like the turquoise one, too. But I gotta ask the stupid question: what is this to make such a shape? How’d you do it?
Ditto everyone, esp. Billie. I can’t figure out what it is! I prefer the turquise just becausse I like the color better. Great series.
They are all great, but I really love the blue one with the dark background.
Thanks, y’all! These turned out so much better than I’d expected them to.
Billie: It’s a blue glass vase. I tried a bunch of different things to get the effects.
For this one, I held the vase with my left hand and the camera a bit away from the opening with my right, and got the camera to focus on the bottom of the vase so my left hand and the lip are out of focus.
For Turquoise 1 I had the flash off and held the vase pointing toward a light, then I put the lens right up against the opening of the vase but off to the side and took the shot. On the other 3 Turquoise shots I had a slightly longer shutter speed, held the camera a little further away, and shook the vase around as I snapped the shot.
On the Blue Circles I put the lens of the camera right up against the lip of the vase as I held it up and took a shot with flash.
I applied various filters in Photoshop to all of these, mostly different blue or cyan or cooling filters. Mostly just to play around with filters, which I’d never tried before at all.
Yes I agree with overread too. The turquoise is my fav. but they are all REALLY great!
i like the color contrasts in this shot but think that turquiose one and blue circles are a little stronger because they envelop the viewer that much more.
